In the third and fourth periods, all pupils and teachers at Buterland School gathered in the sports hall to celebrate the traditional Advent carol singing. This communal singing is an integral part of the pre-Christmas season and is eagerly anticipated every year.
The musical preparation for this began in the weeks beforehand. The pieces were practiced intensively in music lessons. This year, however, there was a special innovation: the American classics "Let it Snow" and "Winter Wonderland" were sung in German translation, which provided variety as well as enthusiasm and catchy tunes.
Of course, a traditional Christmas carol was not to be missed. "Hört ihr, wie die Engel singen" ("Listen to the angels sing") brought this to life and this was made particularly clear by the children singing along at the top of their voices. Another highlight was a creative contribution to the melody of "Man on the Moon" by R.E.M. A rewritten text was performed to this well-known melody, which told of the birth of Jesus in the stable.(All the animals in the stable; William Wahl)
The crowning finale was an active performance: everyone moved together to the rhythm of the music to "Trepak - Russian Dance" from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet "The Nutcracker". In a large circle in the gymnasium, the students and teachers created an impressive and lively moment that brought the morning to a close and made it unforgettable.
We wish everyone a peaceful time and a good start to 2025.
