For countless decades, carnival has been an integral part of the Buterland School as a festive event. Colorful costumes, cheerful songs and, of course, the indispensable streamers and confetti characterize the celebrations, at which generations of students dress up and have fun together.
Over the years, preferences for costumes have changed. While animals and princesses are still very popular, other trends have changed: Indians and cowboys used to be popular disguises, but nowadays it is more common to see policemen or ninjas parading through decorated classrooms and corridors instead.
Despite all the changes, the aim of the Buterland School remains unchanged: Carnival is not just an opportunity to celebrate, but also a moment of togetherness. The celebration is based on Christian values, strengthens cohesion and creates unforgettable memories - a look at photos from the 1960s to the early 1980s shows that the enthusiasm for carnival at the school is timeless.
