This year, the Buterland School once again participated with great commitment in the NRW School Cinema Weeks, which took place from January 23 to February 5, 2025. This state-wide film education project enables pupils to see selected films at participating cinemas at reduced prices. The aim is to promote film education, make it possible to experience cinema as an extracurricular place of learning and strengthen cooperation between schools and cinemas.
The third year kicked off with the movie "Alles steht Kopf 2". The sequel to the popular animated film offered the students deep insights into the world of emotions.
The younger year groups watched "The Olchis" together. The story about the lovable garbage monsters delighted the children and conveyed important values such as friendship and acceptance in a playful way.
The following week, the fourth year went to the cinema and watched "Checker Tobi and the Journey to the Flying Rivers". The documentary took the pupils on an exciting journey of discovery and encouraged their interest in scientific topics.
Feedback from the students
The children were very satisfied with the selection of films and were captivated by the events on the screen. Some pupils expressed a desire to explore the topics covered in more depth in class, which underlines the educational value of the selected films.
About the SchulKinoWochen NRW
The SchulKinoWochen NRW is the largest film education project in the state. Well over 100,000 pupils take part every year. The films on offer can be integrated into various subjects and are supplemented by educational material. There are also training courses for teachers and film discussions with educational speakers.
The project aims to promote film education, make the cinema a tangible extracurricular place of learning and strengthen cooperation between schools and cinemas. It supports local and regional networks and raises awareness of the possibilities of film education to promote media literacy. Teachers are motivated to treat films as audiovisual works in the classroom and to deepen their students' film skills.
The selection of films is updated annually and is specially adapted for use in the classroom. The range includes current feature films, documentaries and animated films as well as film classics, which are organized according to subjects, age recommendations and curriculum-relevant topics. Each film is accompanied by educational material that can be used to optimally prepare and follow up the visit to the cinema in class.
The Buterland School's participation in the NRW School Cinema Weeks was therefore a complete success and offered the pupils valuable learning experiences outside the classroom.
