The Buterland School took part in the "Walk to School" campaign in the first half of the 2024/2025 school year. The aim of this initiative was to encourage pupils to walk to school wherever possible, thereby contributing to road safety and their own health.
Every day, the number of children in each class who walked to school was recorded. The results were calculated as a percentage to enable a fair comparison between the classes. The results were diligently counted and evaluated throughout the first half of the school year.
Today, Friday, the time had finally come: the winning classes of the first round of the competition were announced. First place went to class 4a, followed by class 3b in second place and class 3a in third place. In recognition of their exemplary participation, the class representatives of the winning classes received various pieces of play equipment from Ms. Hüning for an active break time.
The positive effects of the campaign are already noticeable. The traffic situation in front of the school has eased considerably and the previously frequent traffic chaos now only occurs on special days. This shows that many families have switched to an environmentally friendly and safe way of getting to school.
In the second half of the school year, the campaign continues with a new challenge. This time, the classes within a year group compete against each other - for example, class 1a against class 1b and 1c.
The staff at Buterland School hope that many pupils will continue to be motivated to walk to school in the next round and that the positive developments will continue.
