This year, the Buterland School is taking part in the "Walk to School" campaign for the first time. This initiative was launched by the North Rhine-Westphalia road safety organization Landesverkehrswacht NRW and helps children to walk to school safely and independently. The campaign takes place throughout the school year. In particular, a special campaign week takes place in the week from September 16 to September 20.
What is "Walking to school" about?
The campaign promotes independent walking to school in order to teach children the importance of exercise and road safety. It also helps to reduce the volume of traffic in front of the school and protect the environment. By walking to school, the children learn important rules of behavior in traffic, strengthen their self-confidence and improve their health through daily exercise in the fresh air.
Why is the Buterland School taking part?
It is very important to the staff at Buterland School that our pupils master their way to school independently. Participation in the campaign offers a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of a safe and healthy way to school. Children should be encouraged to take responsibility for their own journey to school and at the same time relieve the burden on parents by avoiding the daily "parent cab".
The advantages for students:
- More exercise: Walking to school every day promotes physical activity and contributes to your child's health.
- Independence: Your child learns to walk to school safely and confidently.
- Environmental awareness: Fewer car journeys reduce the volume of traffic, which benefits both the environment and safety outside the school.
- Sense of community: Many children can walk to school together in small groups, strengthening the sense of solidarity among them.
Safety comes first!
The journey to school naturally harbors various dangers. It is therefore an advantage if the way to school is practiced together. Especially the first steps in this direction are crucial for your child to feel safe.
How can you support your child?
- Practice the way to school together with your child.
- Talk about possible danger spots and how to overcome them.
- Make sure that your child leaves on time in the morning so that they arrive at school safely and stress-free.
