the power of small lights

Despite a gray December morning, the students and their teachers made their way to Gronau's city center. Their destination was St. Antonius Church, where the annual Advent service was taking place. Inside the church, soft and warm lighting created an atmosphere that set the mood for the Advent season.

Father Thomas Klümper from the Catholic parish and Deacon Lukas Klee from the Protestant parish led the service. The focus was on the symbolic power of a candle, whose light and warmth provide guidance and comfort even in dark moments. The intercessions were accompanied by children who lit a candle for each petition. After each intercession, a verse of the song "Carry a light into the world now" was also sung, impressively underlining the idea of light.

Between the prayers and the story that was read aloud, singing resounded through the nave. These songs also dealt with the theme of candlelight and how children can bring light into the darkness. A special feature of the singing was that the songs were accompanied by the organ. This gave the service a lively and at the same time solemn atmosphere.

The morning left a lasting impression on everyone involved and highlighted the importance of hope and confidence in challenging times.

The staff of the Buterland School wish everyone a peaceful Advent season and happy holidays.
