As part of their science lessons, the third year is currently working on the topic of "fire". The pupils are learning about the properties of fire and the dangers associated with it.
A special highlight in this context was the loan of protective clothing by the Velen fire department. The children had the opportunity to get to know original firefighting clothing and learn more about its importance in the fire department. It became clear how important this equipment is for the safety of the emergency services.
Of course, the students were also allowed to try on the protective clothing themselves. It quickly became apparent how heavy the clothing is. The reason for this is the special materials, which are particularly resistant to flames and protect the firefighters from extreme heat.

This practical experience gave the children a better understanding of the challenges associated with a firefighting operation. The topic of "fire" will be further explored in the course of the lessons, focusing on the properties of fire and how to handle it responsibly.
