The school received a special visit on December 5: St. Nicholas made a stop at the Buterland School. Dressed in his traditional red robe, accompanied by the gentle tinkling of his bell and a large book under his arm, he entered the school.
The children of the first year welcomed him with astonished looks. The classes had rehearsed something small to greet him, which clearly delighted St. Nicholas. The youngest pupils then listened attentively as he gave them a few personal words to take home with them. He praised their hard work and diligence, but also mentioned a few little things with a friendly smile that they could improve on in the future.
The older classes also received a brief visit from St. Nicholas. As he walked through the building, he looked into various rooms, greeted them warmly and spread a warm, pre-Christmas atmosphere everywhere.
As every year, St. Nicholas brought a sweet surprise: baked mare's cheeks, which were distributed to the classes and made for happy faces. This made the day a wonderful experience that enriched the Advent season at Buterland School.
