This year, the Buterland School once again demonstrated its sporting talent at the city championships in relay swimming and set a strong example last Friday (20.02.2026) with convincing results. The selected pupils from years two to four competed with great commitment and showed that they are among the best swimmers in Gronau.
Thanks to intensive preparation in swimming lessons - with training in starting jumps, smooth relay handovers and fast swimming techniques - the children were well prepared and highly motivated for the start. Pupils from class 2a also took part for the first time. They represented the other two classes in their year, as only they had taken part in swimming lessons at school. This meant that the swimming teachers were only able to get an idea of their abilities in the water. With this special task, they started the competition with particular ambition in order to represent their school and their year group in a worthy manner.
In exciting races, they competed against other elementary school from Gronau and Epe and impressed with their team spirit and stamina. After a total of eight exciting competitions, the boys from Buterland School achieved a strong sixth place. The girls' team also showed great commitment and finished in fifth place overall.
The fourth-grade students also secured a clear third place in comparison with the other schools. The final competition for the fourth-grade girls was particularly exciting: With their final swim, the Buterland girls' team finished just a blink of an eye ahead of the competition, taking second place.
The children returned to Buterland School with their swimming teachers proudly and with their heads held high, where they were awarded certificates for their strong performances. The successes motivate the young swimming talents to continue working on their skills and prepare for upcoming competitions.
Many of the participants are already looking forward to the individual competitions in the Parkfreibad pool in the summer, where the fastest swimmers can once again show off their skills. The staff and all the pupils at Buterland School are very proud of the sporting achievements of the young talents and are already looking forward to future competitions.
