The nationwide "Walk to school" campaign aims to motivate children to walk, cycle or scoot to school independently and actively every day. This encourages exercise, independence and environmental awareness, while at the same time relieving the traffic situation in front of schools.
The action week reached its climax on Friday at the Buterland School. Despite the very rainy weather at the beginning of the week, the majority of pupils still came to school on foot or by bike on many days. The children were very enthusiastic. Many of them were able to collect (almost) all of their stamps during the week.
The action week was made possible by the energetic commitment of numerous parents who lined up at various positions around the school from 7:40 a.m. and accompanied the arrival of the children. Many thanks go to the parents, without whose commitment the campaign would not have been possible, as well as to Ms Targas and Ms Overmeyer, who organized and coordinated it on the school side with great dedication.
The current feedback from children, parents and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive. The pupils clearly enjoyed collecting stamps for their class. The prizes that the classes can look forward to will be announced in the coming days. The campaign will continue throughout the current school year. The pupils in each class will now collect points and compete against the classes in their respective year group.
The staff at the Buterland School are delighted that the campaign was so well received by the pupils and hope for further motivated participation in the campaign.
