As part of a special theme week, the Buterland School focused on the commute to school. The main goal was to get to the school entrance without relying on parents to drive them as much as possible. Whether on foot, by bike, or by getting off the bus a few stops earlier—the key was to actively cover the last few meters to school.
For every trip to school completed in this way, the children could earn a stamp for their class. At various stations around the school, dedicated parents were on hand to stamp the students’ collection cards. In this way, the daily trip to school also became a joint competition among the classes.
The classes that collect the most stamps can look forward to special rewards. These include, for example, special reading sessions with the school dog, an active play session in the newly redesigned school garden, and other group activities that can be arranged within the classes.
The theme week is just the beginning: The project will continue throughout the entire school year. The points earned will be tallied within each grade level. The winning classes will be announced at the midyear mark and at the end of the school year.
Special thanks go to the many parents who supported the campaign at the stations and thereby helped ensure that the children could actively shape their way to school in a variety of ways. The faculty hopes that even beyond the campaign week, many children will continue to come to school on their own—whether on foot, by bike, or by other means—while also diligently earning points for their class.
