At the start of the new school year, the third-graders headed to the library. Over the past few weeks, each class visited the library on its own scheduled date, where they discovered not only exciting books but also the current exhibition for the “Local Climate Action” photo contest.
The focus of the visit was on their photos of the top-ranked entries, which are currently still on display in the library. Together, the children looked at the pictures, shared their impressions, and also discussed other submitted photos. There was a lot to discover, and they came up with various ideas on how climate protection can be made visible right here in their community.
The library also had appropriate reading material available for social studies. Since the third-grade classes are currently studying the topic of bridges, relevant books were presented and explored together. At the same time, the children were able to look for books related to their own personal interests and find answers to many of their questions in the right books.
Of course, there was also time for browsing: Between conversations and searching for books, the children were already able to read the books they had chosen and discover their first stories, factual information, and exciting topics.
Another highlight, for example, was putting together their own classroom book box. Each class was allowed to select books that would be available for everyone to use together in the classroom. The book boxes are not only used for free reading but are also actively incorporated into lessons. In this way, the library visit ensures that the reading material remains interesting not just for one morning but continues to be part of the children’s everyday school life.
