For the new first-graders, the school year began with an ecumenical outdoor orientation service that centered entirely on the children and their families. The service was led by Edward Pawolka from the Catholic Church and Lukas Klee from the Evangelical Church in Gronau. Together, they addressed both the anticipation and the excitement that come with starting school. After all, the start of school is a significant milestone—not only for the children, but also for their parents and guardians.
Guided by the principle of fostering a love of school and encouraging the children as they embark on this new chapter in their lives, the children were actively involved in the service throughout. As a result, the service became a lively shared experience in which the anticipation of the upcoming school year was palpable.
The service was also accompanied by evocative music. The songs sung together took on a personal and welcoming atmosphere thanks to Lukas Klee’s guitar accompaniment.
A particularly solemn moment followed at the end of the service: the new students, their parents and guardians, and the staff of Buterland School were blessed. Accompanying this blessing was the hope that the children would be guided and strengthened on their new journey and that the entire school community would welcome them with confidence and openness. Thus, the school-entry service concluded with best wishes for a successful, exciting, and eventful school experience. A new chapter in life begins, filled with many new encounters, challenges, friendships, and—hopefully—many moments that the children will fondly remember for a long time to come.
