A School Trip Full of Team Spirit and a Thirst for Adventure

From September 30 to October 2, the fourth-year class went on a class trip. For three days, the itinerary focused on camaraderie, adventure, and plenty of shared experiences.

Right from the start, a special surprise awaited the children: Each child received their own bag featuring their class mascot and their name. The lovingly designed bags served as a way to identify each child throughout the entire field trip and also provided a practical way to carry small items needed for the many activities. They also contained a small drink. Special thanks go to the parent representatives from the three classes, who organized the bags and crafted them by hand.

The first two days were divided into three major thematic blocks, with the classes taking turns participating in them:

  • One of the activities involved a hike around Lake Dümmer. Along the way, various team games such as “Where’s My Chicken?,” “Fan-Rock-Paper-Scissors,” “Name Ball,” “Scream Run,” and “Kontakto” kept things interesting. Of course, snack breaks and a few photo stops were a must. The children in Class 4c made themselves especially comfortable and picked out hiking poles for their walk. True to the motto: “Hiking is the miller’s delight!”
  • The second thematic block was all about creativity and construction. Despite the rain, the groups weren’t deterred from building marble runs and gnome houses. This resulted in a wide variety of structures. Of course, the marble runs were also given their own names. Among others, “GEL,” “Countess von ZappZerapp,” and “CABE” took to the track.
  • The third activity block featured numerous mini-games designed to strengthen the sense of community. Games like “I Came Alone,” “Titanic,” the gold coin game, “The Vomiting Kangaroo,” “The Ant Game,” and “Musical Chairs” required teamwork, dexterity, and, above all, a lot of good cheer.
  • On Wednesday evening, after dinner, a special adventure awaited us: a night hike through the woods—without any flashlights. Afterward, there was still time to wind down the evening together in our rooms.

On Thursday morning, the so-called “Festival Alarm Clock” kicked off the day. The chaperones were in particularly good spirits—at least from their own perspective. After each thematic block, a special challenge awaited the groups: in groups of varying sizes, they had to cross a sort of portal—a swinging rope. If one group member failed to make it, the entire group had to start over from the beginning. Patience, teamwork, and mutual support were essential.

In the evening, it was finally time for some culinary fun: At the burger party, the kids were able to eat their fill. The record stood at an impressive five burgers per child.

After that, the evening turned into a huge disco. One hit after another kept the energy high, while glow bracelets set the right mood. Party snacks and the leftover drinks from the third-year class party rounded out the disco night.

On Friday morning, the class trip’s entertainment group made another appearance—along with the festival alarm clock we’d already gotten to know. The kids were happy about it… though not all of them quite as much. After all, the night had apparently been too short for some. A few kids had apparently decided on the spur of the moment to play “store” during the night. After getting up, they packed their suitcases and cleared out their rooms.

Consequently, the children set out on their return trip after breakfast, feeling quite tired. The journey back took them through foggy Lower Saxony. The closer they got to home, the more the fog lifted. Under bright sunshine, the children finally arrived back at school, tired but cheerful.

Three eventful days filled with hikes, games, building projects, a night hike, burgers, a disco, and countless shared experiences thus came to an end. We were left with many memories—and, for some, probably a serious lack of sleep as well.
