Disease and lice

My child is sick. What do I have to do?

If your child is sick, you must notify us in a timely manner via Schoolfox, by phone at 02562/94 52 660, or in person.

If your child is diagnosed with any of the illnesses listed below or is found to have head lice, the Infection Protection Act (IfSG § 34) stipulates that your child may not return to school until a doctor has determined that there is no longer a risk of the illness spreading. Please notify your child’s teacher immediately if such a case occurs and provide the relevant documentation.

The following diseases are covered by the Infection Protection Act:

  • Cholera
  • Diphtheria
  • Enteritis due to enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC)
  • virus-induced hemorrhagic fever
  • Haemophilus influenza type b meningitis
  • Impetigo contagiosa (contagious bork lichen)
  • Whooping cough
  • infectious pulmonary tuberculosis
  • Measles
  • Meningococcal infection
  • Mumps
  • Paratyphoid
  • Pest
  • Poliomyelitis
  • Scabies (Scabies)
  • Scarlet fever or other Streptococcus pyogenes infections.
  • Shigellosis
  • Typhus abdominalis
  • Viral hepatitis A or E
  • Chickenpox

My child has lice. What do I have to do?

If you discover that your child has head lice, you must notify us immediately. In addition, your child may not return to school until he or she is free of lice and nits.

If we find lice on your child, we will call you and send your child home. If we are unable to reach you, we will seat your child separately from the others until we can contact you to prevent further spread. If head lice are detected, all children and parents in the class—and, if necessary, in the after-school care program—will be informed via the “head lice notice.”
