Leave of absence of a child
Leave of absence from classes pursuant to Section 43(4), first sentence, of the North Rhine-Westphalia School Act
Students may be excused from class for a valid reason.
The decision regarding a leave of absence rests solely with the school administration.
A request for a leave of absence must be submitted in writing and in a timely manner to the school administration via the homeroom teacher. The reasons for the requested leave of absence must be explained in detail.
For longer-term leaves of absence, the approval of the relevant school supervisory authority is also required.
Please note that leaves of absence immediately before or after school breaks can only be approved in justified exceptional cases. In particular, a leave of absence may not be used to extend school breaks, take advantage of lower travel prices, or avoid expected traffic peaks.
