On July 1, under bright sunshine, the Fox Class set off for the farm of their classmate Greta. During reading time over the past few weeks, Class 2b had been exploring the topic of farms in depth. Together, the children learned a lot about life on a farm, the various farm animals, how they’re cared for, and the daily tasks of farmers. This made them all the more excited to experience what they’d learned firsthand.
The children received a warm welcome at the Glanerschulte family’s farm. First, they got to visit the newborn calves. They watched the young animals up close with great enthusiasm and learned interesting facts about how they are raised and cared for. It was especially exciting to feed the calves themselves and see just how curious and trusting they were.
Afterward, the family led the “Fox Class” to the dairy cows. There, the children learned how the cows are kept and cared for, and what daily tasks are involved on a dairy farm. A special highlight was the tour of the modern milking parlor. The students were able to watch the cows being milked and received clear explanations of how the milk ultimately makes its way from the udder to the milk tank.
To wrap up the eventful morning, everyone got to try fresh milk and delicious hot chocolate. With their energy replenished, there was still plenty of time left to climb on the big bales of straw, play, and ride the pedal tractors around the farm. The children clearly had a lot of fun and were able to experience the farm with all their senses.
The field trip was an exciting and educational experience for the Fox Class, during which the children were able to take in many new impressions and deepen their knowledge from class in a special way.
A heartfelt thank you to the Glanerschulte family for their warm welcome, the interesting insights into daily life on the farm, and their wonderful hospitality!
