A Look Behind Church Doors

In second-grade religion class, the topic “The Church” was covered during the final lessons of the school year. The students explored the structure of a church and the functions of its various areas.

Under bright sunshine, the study group set off for the Catholic church in Gronau to further explore the material they had previously covered in class. During the visit, they took a close look at the church building. They were able to explore the various areas of the church and match them to the functions discussed in class.

The hands-on tour vividly illustrated the theoretical concepts covered in religious education class. The firsthand experiences on site facilitated experiential learning and deepened the students’ understanding of the structure and significance of the various parts of a church.
